The Paper: My work as a multi media artist began with fibers and grew to hand made paper. Paper making is the reuse of materials in a creative form. I am an active member of The Guild of Papermakers in the Philadelphia area. We collectively produce hundreds of pounds of pulp from a variety of materials for our work. Paper connects people. I try to add other materials in ways to make that connection more apparent.
I begin with hand forming PULPS using used, found papers, older paintings, and materials within the plant families. From there I focus on design elements. Additionally, painted surface designs, textures and colors that would be symmetrically balanced are constantly present in my mind and hopefully well represented to the viewer. My goal is to create a “pulp” that yields a representation of a “fabric” of found materials: threads, leaves, and metal screening . Finally painting and sculpting through the use of form, texture, and colorI am always seeking new materials to merge with my fibers, collages and paper pulp fascinations. As a professional, I am always committed to originality and newness. Abstraction of the force of Nature is my goal in all that I do.
